Band

Short Biography

Ai Ming Oei (born in The Netherlands on March 31st, 1985) is the singer and songwriter in the band Ming's Pretty Heroes. She first comes up with lyrics and subsequently turns these into songs at her piano. She approaches everyday themes like love, fear, or the awkward ways of society from different levels: either worldly or personal. Ming feels strongly about many things, is amazed by much, and would certainly like to change a lot in the world. But she finds writing and singing about all these things to be most satisfying. It was in her preliminary year at the popacademy of the conservatory in Rotterdam that she wrote her first song. After that she made her studies all about her songs, performing, developing her product, finding the perfect band, the art of songwriting etc. While searching for the perfect band, she did a lot of acoustic performances with her guitar player. All were in intimate settings. So making people listen was a must. In September 2006 the perfect combination of her band was formed. In April 2007 the first EP "Cut off from Gravity" wasrecorded. Presently Ming is working on an even better album, containing her melodious narratives. The Pretty Heroes aim to grab their listeners and fill them up with emotions they can embrace, or simply identify with. Either one is fine.

Long Biography

Ai Ming Oei was born in the Netherlands on march 31st, 1985. In her childhood she got in touch with her musical side by playing the piano, singing and ballet classes. However it wasn't till she went abroad to the US that she figured out that this was what she wanted. Fryeburg Academy had a very developed musical department. It is where she sang solo in a successful vocal jazz choir. They won wonderful prices, which was great. But even better was that Ming was encouraged to develop her musical talent.

Back in Holland she finished high school and auditioned for the Conservatory in Rotterdam. She got accepted into the pop academy. It was in the preliminary year she first started writing songs. She hasn't stopped since. For a large part she made her studies at the conservatory about her songs, the art of songwriting, performing, developing her product etc.

The first performances (march 2006) were only with guitar player Clemens Blacquière. They were in intimate settings. This is where she started making people listen. In between she was trying to get together the perfect band. In September 2006 she found her perfect combination of musicians: Clemens Blacquière (01, invalgitarist Boris) on guitar, Jordi Geuens (Postman, Birgit Lewis) on drums, Sjoerd de Vries on Keys and Bas Nuiver (Sebastian) on bass. She planned performances, so they just had to start going. The chemistry was great and all together they arranged the songs quite quickly. The performances went great and in April 2007 the first EP "Cut of from Gravity" was recorded. Presently Ming is working on an even better album, containing her melodious narratives.

The songs Ming writes are her Pretty Heroes. The lyrics and the music are just as important; they need to be one in the song. The band members she plays with are her Pretty Heroes as well. The Pretty Heroes aim to grab their listeners and fill them up with emotions they can embrace, or simply identify with. Either one is fine. Enjoy the music!
