25.04.2010: Today we leave!
26.04.2010: Overcoming our jetlag is a fight, but we already made it till eleven PM. Photographer Vincent Carmiggelt came on another flight but has been with us all day. We discovered facebook isn't an option in China, but that's all right, we'll get used to it. Next to exploring the neighborhood we also ended up at a hardcore Chinese restaurant. Coming up next; sightseeing!
27.04.2010: The six of us got settled in. We soon discovered that we are near a street with at least 10 music shops. Sander already spotted the Tremorama pedal. Of course we needed to see some of Beijing so we rented bikes. As we biked to the famous Forbidden City (residence of 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties) and the Tiananmen Square, we discovered quite a nice bar street. On which we had dinner on our way back.
28.04.2010: Today guide Laura (her English name) took us around Beijing. We went to the 798 Artzone (highly recommended), the Silk Market (bargain well and you can get cool stuff at sharp prices), the Bell and Drum towers, a small Hutong street, a touristy area around a beautiful lake and we had the best noodles and tofu ever at a typical Chinese restaurant.
29.04.2010: Today we were supposed to have our soundcheck for the MIDI festival at Haidian Park (50 minutes away). Unfortunately, due to heavy winds, the venue just wasn't ready. Hopefully we'll get to do the soundcheck on Sunday morning. At night we were invited to celebrate queensday at the residence of the Dutch Ambassador. Ming was asked to sing the 1st and 6th verse of the Dutch National Anthem. The 6th turned out to be a little harder than expected... We had great time at the reception and would like to thank the Embassy, especially Eric van Kooij.
30.04.2010: To make the most of our trip to China we booked a tour to the Great wall with guide Annie. We went to the great wall all right (which really was great), but we were also lured into a Jade factory, a Silk Factory, a traditional tea ceremony and into a health center, complete with professors doing Kung Fu on Bas his back while trying to sell Sander 120 euros worth of Chinese herbs for his supposed health issues. All factories and the health center are government owned. A 40 minute visit is mandatory. Guide Laura invited Ming over for dinner so Ming got a little peek at how the Beijingers live. The Chinese meal was Delicious, thanks Laura! Tonight: MAO Livehouse!
01.05.2010 Today MIDI brought us to our five star hotel, provided by MIDI. It’s all the way at Haidian park. We had little time because we had to hop on taxis, back to the city center for our soundcheck at Yu Gong Yi Shan. The club looked really nice, not to big, but big enough. We met the other bands Caracal, Inch Chua and Audio’s Pain, they were from Singapore and Spain and also playing at MIDI. We played a really good show! We were all very happy about it.
02.05.2010 This was the most important day of the trip. Yes it was Vincent's Birthday, which was fun, but we also played our show at MIDI! There was no soundcheck, which caused a little bit of stress. We played at 5.30 PM at the main stage called the Tang stage (after the dynasty). 5 minutes before the show started Jack's Midi keyboard arrived, it was a bit tricky, but everything turned out to be fine. The stage was huge and we had a super big screen behind us, projecting us as we played. Before us stood 6000 enthusiastic people! It felt bizar but also very natural. We rocked! Proud of MPH. Afterwards it was crazy as well. People were waiting at the backstage for signatures on tickets, t-shirts, cds, arms and even money. Name it, we signed it;). On top of that a lot of people asked if they could be in pictures with us. Of course we were honored! MIDI was awesome! Thnx Chang!! Thnx MIDI!!

Beijing tour is nearing at highspeed! In just one week MPH will hop on board! Thanks to the amazing sponsors -individuels and companies- and the subsidy granted by the Zuid-Hollandse Popunie, the Ok Mr. Mix tour is in fact a fact. The song "Black and White" Was originally written for horor movie The Blue Horse (by stichting Corosa). Saturday november the 7th is the official premiere. The movie, feat. "Black and White", will be shown on the Central Dutch Film Festival. Check the website for other screening dates.

From oct 26th till the 29th of oct, Ming's Pretty Heroes were supposed to be guests at the Stenders Eetvermaak radioshow at 3FM. However, after two days, Ming's Pretty Heroes, for several reasons, decided to quit and let 3FM know they weren't going to come to the studio anymore. This resulted in a small riot, including some dirty name calling by the dj's sidekick... It was an exciting week! The first Ming's Pretty Heroes riot!

Nov 2008: MPH spent over two weeks at the Reanimator studio in Antwerp. Together with producer/engineer Christophe Albertijn 12 tracks were recorded. They will be part of the debut album called "OK Mr Mix". Check this website or sign up for the news letter for updates on the release of this album.

"Met name het afsluitende nummer "Masked Ball" maakte indruk. Door steeds een gezongen zin op te nemen en af te spelen zong Ming als het ware in canon met zichzelf. Versterkt door de band die een soundscape neerzetten van zacht brommende ondertonen zwelde hetnummer aan naar een apotheose die in alle eenvoud veel indruk maakte.
Het publiek in Rotown beloonde Ming"s Pretty Heroes dan ook met de Norma Publieksprijs en van de jury mochten ze met het zilver naar huis."

The gig in Rotown was great. The jury Of GPZH made MPH third, but the audience voted en masse that MPH was their number one.

Ming's Pretty Heroes made it to the finals of the GPZH. They will play the 23rd of March in Rotown, Rotterdam. Also will Ming be busy with creating a Ming's Pretty Heroes fotolog for the Rotterdam magazine, NL10. It 'll be all over town in the third week of february.
